Ford has announced that it has hit a milestone for the first Pony car, the Mustang. The 10 millionth Ford Mustang rolled off the assembly line this week at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan. The Mustang is hailed as the best-selling sports car in the last 50 years in America, and has been the world's best-selling sports car for three years in a row.

The special 10 millionth car was as close to the very first Mustang that rolled off the assembly line as possible. That means the record-setting ride is a 2019 Wimbledon White GT V8 6-speed manual convertible. The 2019 Mustang is powered by a 460hp 5.0L V8 and Ford says that it was fitted with all the latest driver assist technology. The very first 1964 Mustang VIN 001 was the same color and used a 3-speed automatic paired to a 164hp V8 engine.

"Mustang is the heart and soul of this company and a favorite around the world," said Jim Farley, president of global markets, Ford Motor Company. "I get the same thrill seeing a Mustang roll down a street in Detroit, London or Beijing that I felt when I bought my first car – a 1966 Mustang coupe that I drove across the country as a teenager. Mustang is a smile-maker in any language."

Ford has already been celebrating 2019 with some very cool special edition Mustangs, including the return of the Bullitt producing more power and looking like the famed movie car from the 1960's Steve McQueen flick of the same name. Ford is also continuing production of the Shelby GT350 and has fitted it with new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and revised brakes and suspension.
