16-inch Apple MacBook Pro Flagship With Thinner Bezels Tipped For September Unveil

It looks as though the 2019 iPhones will get plenty of company on stage at Apple's fall keynote address. In addition to three "iPhone 11" models, Apple is also rumored to debut updated iPad Pro tablets and potentially an Apple Watch Series 5. But we're now learning that Apple could potentially reveal the widely rumored 16-inch MacBook Pro at the same event instead of at a separate October event.

This latest declaration comes from DigiTimes, which claims the 16-inch MacBook Pro will have much smaller bezels than its 15-inch MacBook Pro counterpart. Those thinner bezels will reportedly allow the new notebook to feature similar case dimensions to the existing 15-inch MacBook Pro.

It's not known at this time if this will be a simple display upgrade, or if Apple will go all out with a dramatic redesign of the entire chassis, which has soldiered on pretty much unchanged since 2016 (with the exception of continual updates to the butterfly keyboard design).

The publication also claims that the 16-inch MacBook Pro will start at $3,200, which is an $800 increase over the starting price of the 15-inch MacBook Pro.

According to previous rumors from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new flagship MacBook Pro will have an all-new scissor-type keyboard mechanism to replace the problematic butterfly keys on current MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models. The new scissor switches are said to be more durable and will double Apple's material costs for the keyboard.

The 16-inch display will reportedly increase in resolution from 2880x1800 on the 15-inch MacBook Pro to 3072x1920. Also in the cards are [expected] 9th generation Intel Core i7 and Core i9 processors.

At this point, it is assumed that the new 16-inch will simply serve as range-topping model (given its rumored price point) rather than replacing the existing 15-inch model.
