Latest 2019 Apple iPhone Rumors Point To Triple Cameras And USB-C Connectivity
A new iPhone rumor suggests that Apple will be launching at least two iPhone XI models with triple rear camera arrangements. This is not the first we have heard about Apple moving to three rear cameras, but according to the latest chatter, the fancy setup will be part of two completely new handsets, and not incremental bumps to existing models.
That is to say, they will not simply be refreshed iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS, and iPhone XR models, though apparently those are in the works as well. Interestingly, the two iPhone XI handsets and refreshed versions of Apple's current generation iPhone models will all be launching alongside one another sometime later this year. If that turns out to be true, then we imagine the next iterations of the iPhone XS Max and iPhone XS will retain a dual camera arrangement on the rear.
According to a report by Japanese-language website Macotakara.jp, the bigger of the two iPhone XI models will sport a 6.5-inch OLED display, while the smaller version will feature a 6.1-inch screen. For reference, here are the display configurations for Apple's current-gen lineup...
- iPhone XS Max: 6.5-inch OLED display (2688x1242, 458 ppi)
- iPhone XS: 5.8-inch OLED display (2436x1152, 458 ppi)
- iPhone XR: 6.1-inch LCD display (1792x828, 326 ppi)
The report does not detail the screen resolution or pixel density of the upcoming iPhone XI models, only the physical sizes of the displays. However, it does note that the new models will be around 0.4mm thicker than the iPhone XS Max. It is not clear exactly why, as the rear camera protrusion will actually be around 0.25mm smaller, according to the report.
We imagine that the added depth is to accommodate the extra camera hardware, even though the lenses will not stick out as far. The report is a bit fuzzy on the specifics, but notes that the sensor size may be increased (compared to the iPhone XR).
Both models are said to come with a USB-C to Lightning cable and an 18W USB-C power adapter. Apple is also likely to bake in reverse wireless charging, meaning users can plop a set of wireless AirPods onto the back of the phone to charge them.
If the latest rumor is accurate, it will also be interesting to see what other ways Apple differentiates these phones from its refreshed iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS, and iPhone XR models, particularly in regards to the processor and GPU.
