2019 Porsche Macan Launches In Europe Packing 2.0L Turbo Four Power

Porsche is one of the most iconic sports car makers in the world with hyper exotics like the 918 Spyder to its credit along with the venerable 911. Porsche announced this week that the sleek and sexy 911 Speedster would go into production. As cool as that 911 Speedster is, if you want Porsche style and performance while being able to haul family and gear, the Macan SUV may be more appealing for your lifestyle. Porsche has launched the revised 2019 Macan in Europe with the official premiere happening at the Paris Motor Show.

Porsche is using a revamped 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine in the new Macan that features improved combustion chamber geometry and a gasoline particulate filter. The engine delivers 245hp while offering drivers fuel economy of 8.1l/100km on the New European Driving Cycle and CO2 emissions of 185g/km. Official fuel economy and emission numbers for the U.S. are unannounced at this time. Power from the turbo four is transmitted to all four wheels via a Porsche 7-gear PDK dual-clutch transmission.

The new Macan can go from a standstill to 100 km/h (roughly 0-62mph) in 6.7-seconds; considering that this is a mid-size SUV with a four-cylinder, the performance is impressive. Since Porsche is a sports car maker in its heart, the Macan SUV is designed with a sporting nature; the 2019 model has an overhauled chassis aiming to increase comfort and deliver a more rewarding driving experience. Macan buyers get mixed tire sizes front and rear, something common on sports cars. Standard wheels on the Macan will be 18-inch units with up to 21-inch wheels as an option. The new Macan is an all-wheel-drive vehicle that uses the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system to give ideal traction in all driving conditions while maintaining a sporty ride.

Porsche fits the Macan with a three-dimensional LED light panel at the rear, with style that is unmistakably Porsche, along with LED headlights. A new "fully interconnected" Porsche communication management system boasts a 10.9-inch touchscreen fitted inside the cabin. Taking a page from the Panamera and Cayenne book, that screen has a user interface that can be customized to the driver's tastes using pre-defined tiles. Standard online navigation, mobile phone preparation, dual audio interfaces, and intelligent voice control are integrated into the system.

An LTE WiFi hotspot is standard, and an "Offroad Precision" app is available to improve off-roading in the Macan and record it. It's not clear if by "record it" Porsche means GPS or video recording. The optional sports chrono package features a GT sports steering wheel with a sport response button built-in. That steering wheel is like the steering wheel inside the 911. Porsche is currently mum on pricing and when the 2019 Macan will be available for purchase in Europe and the United States.
