2020 BMW Alpina B7 Pumps 600 HP And Hits 205 MPH In Posh Comfort

There are some things that you can take for granted from BMW. One of them is that its cars are luxurious; even the less expensive 2- and 3-Series cars are posh compared to the standard fare from most automakers. BMW also makes some very fast cars like the 2020 M340i that it rolled out last November. One of the most luxurious of the vehicles in the BMW stable is the 7-Series, and Alpina has taken that luxurious car and turned it into the world's fastest sedan.

The car is the 2020 Alpina B7, and its biggest claim to fame is the over 200 mph top speed the vehicle is capable of. Only five other sedans in the world boast a top speed of at least 200 mph; the Alpina B7 is the sixth and fastest of them all. Alpina notes that the B7 was capable of doing over 200 mph before the 2020 model year, but the car had been limited to 192 mph in the States.

To get that incredible top speed, you can't option the B7 with all-season tires; that will limit the car to 130 mph as the tires can't take the full top speed of the ride. The donor platform for the Alpina B7 is the updated 2020 BMW 7-Series car. The ride has a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 heart making 600 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. In Alpina trim, the turbos are upgraded, and the software controlling the engine is upgraded as well. To survive that boatload of torque and horsepower, Alpina also upgraded the 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system.

Other features include special air springs that lower the car by 0.6-inches in Sport+ mode to help reduce drag and improve handling. The healthy V8 engine pushes the B7 to 60 mph from naught in 3.5-seconds, making the B7 faster than the V12-powered M760i. That much power and the updated styling of the car means the Alpina B7 is far from cheap; the MSRP is a steep $141,700 and will launch in Q3 of this year.
