2020 Chevy C8 Corvette Mid-Engine Supercar Slayer Reveals Its Ample Booty

"America's Sports" car is getting its most radical makeover in its 60+ years of existence for its 8th generation (C8). The Corvette has always been a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive vehicle, but that all changes for the 2020 model year which sees the car shift to a mid-engine configuration.

General Motors has been parading around prototypes with production body panels in place, but they are heavily camouflaged to hide the vehicle's true lines. However, new Corvettes have a tendency to leak ahead of their official reveal, and the new C8 is no exception. Witness the bit 'ol ass of the new Corvette, which seems to take some styling cues both from the current Corvette and the "lesser" Camaro.

We see quad elements for the tail lights, quad exhaust tips, and black vents on either side of the license plate cutout (although we can't tell if these are true vents or fake plastic slabs that are becoming increasingly more common on today's cars). There's also a rather chunky spoiler sitting atop the rear deck.

The official unveil of the C8 Corvette take place on July 18th, which is just 10 days away. But we'll likely see even more photo leaks between now and then. In addition to the above shot of the rear end, the interior of the vehicle also leaked out a few months ago as you can see in the photo below.

It's said that base Corvettes will receive a revised 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine pumping out over 500 horsepower. There will also reportedly be at least two turbocharged motors on the options sheet including a 4.2-liter DOHC V8 that delivers 650 horsepower. Also rumored is a positively terrifying 5.5-liter DOHC V8 that could put out over 800 horsepower to the rear wheels.

Although there's no word on if a manual transmission will live on with the C8 Corvette, it's rumored that a dual-clutch transmission will be available.
