Absinthe 2.0 Used to Jailbreak Almost a Million Devices This Weekend

Although jailbreaking one’s iPhone is a fairly common practice, it can be intimidating for plenty of folks. Apparently, after the Chronic-Dev and iPhone Dev teams released the Absinthe 2.0 jailbreak tool for iOS 5.5.1 devices on Friday, a few more people decided to give it a try.

According to a tweet from Chronic-Dev, nearly a million devices were jailbroken over the weekend--973,086 to be exact. Of those jailbroken devices, 211,401 of them were iPad 3s.

Absinthe 2.0 is alleged to be “so easy your grandma could do it”, but you can judge for yourself by watching this handy video:

Cult of Mac also noted that after the release of Absinthe 1.0 back in January, there were a million downloads of the tool in just days; the developers claimed that 953,232 iOS devices were jailbroken within three days of the software’s release.
