Acer Goes On The Prowl With Core i7-6700K Powered Predator G6-710 Gaming Desktop

Attendees at Gamescon in Cologne, Germany were treated to a close-up look at the new Acer Predator G6 today. The gaming desktop brings new hardware to Acer’s Predator G series, including an Intel Core i7-6700K processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 graphics card.

Acer is billing the updated Predator G6-710 as an “unstoppable fighting machine” that is tough inside and out. “We are thrilled to unveil our new Predator gaming machine for hardcore gamers that’s as enthralling on the exterior with its belligerent armour design as it is on the inside,” said Andrew Hou, general manager of Acer’s Stationary Computing Business Unit.

The Predator G6 will run Windows 10, which is a mildly surprising choice. Large manufacturers like Acer are typically quick to get the latest version of Windows on their systems, but even mainstream builders will stick with an older OS for gaming desktops if there are fears about the operating system’s gaming performance. If other mainstream and boutique builders quickly adopt Windows 10 for gaming systems, that may prove to be a big boost for overall Windows 10 adoption in the coming months. After all, many of us PC gamers end up being free tech support for our family and friends.

The Predator G6 comes with 64GB of RAM and up to 12TB of storage. It also features the Creative Sound Blaster XFI MB5 for your gaming audio pleasure and has both gigabit LAN and 802.11ac wireless networking. One particularly nice touch is that the included mouse and keyboard aren’t your typical freebies: the system includes a SteelSeries APEX RAW keyboard and SteelSeries Sensei RAW gaming mouse.

The new case features Acer’s Ice Tunnel cooling and is designed to have a tough, armor-like look. The system also features Acer’s One-Punch overclocking for overclocking novices. Acer plans to release the Predator G6 in the U.S. in October, but it hasn’t set a specific launch date just yet. Pricing is also somewhat up in the air, but is tentatively set at roughly $2,183.
