Way back in March, we got an early glimpse at the latest entry in Acer's Predator family: the Helios 500. Today, Acer officially unveiled the stout new gaming notebook, which packs in a big 'ol 17.3-inch display.

The notebook comes standard with a 144Hz Full HD (1920x1080) resolution display, but you can option it up with a nice 144Hz 4K (3840x2160) resolution display if you're willing to fork over more money. Both displays are backed by an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card and G-SYNC adaptive refresh technology.

Powering the machine are Intel's latest Coffee Lake-H based processors, up to a Core i9-8950HK. You can pair the processor with up to 64GB of RAM (base systems come with 16GB of DDR4-2133 memory). Other features include Intel Optane memory, PCIe NVMe SSDs (starting at 256GB) and Killer DoubleShot Pro networking. There are two Thunderbolt 3 ports onboard along with HDMI 2.0. You'll also find a backlit RGB keyboard with a total of four lighting zones with support for 16.8 million colors.

Keeping everything cool are twin AeroBlade 3D fan blades that are constructed out of metal and a total of five heat pipes help wick away heat. Fan speeds and other system settings (i.e. overclocking, lighting, etc.) can be controlled via the PredatorSense app.

Stepping down a few rungs on the ladder is the Predator Helios 300 Special Edition, which features an aluminum chassis that has been painted white with gold accents. The machine is dominated by a 15.6-inch 144Hz FHD IPS display.

Storage duties are handled by up to a 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD and up to a 2TB HDD. Like the Helios 500, the Helios 300 Special Edition includes Intel Optane memory to help speed up game loading and other system tasks. However, it forgoes Killer networking in favor of an Intel Wireless-AC 9560 adapter for 802.11ac connectivity.
