Acer Reveals Long-Last Timeline 8573 And 8473 Notebooks

If there's one thing Acer isn't lacking for, it's model numbers.

The company has just introduced two more notebooks in their quickly expanding Timeline series, the Timeline 8573 and 8473. Both of these promise up to 8+ hours of battery life, and they ship with Acer ProShield security, a suite of essential security and manageability tools that integrates fundamental features in a unified user interface. Acer ProShield secures the notebook from unwanted access from BIOS level all the way up to application level. It features pre-boot authentication (PBA) with BIOS/HDD password, alternative Windows log-on with built-in fingerprint reader, and TPM password for data protection. Critical files can be kept safe by encrypting and storing them in a Personal Secure Drive (PSD). With the File Shredder utility users can permanently remove unwanted files or folders from the computer beyond recovery.

Integrated in the design of Acer TravelMate Timeline 8x73 notebooks is next generation DASP (Disk Anti-Shock Protection) technology that insulates the hard disk, providing protection and guaranteeing the physical integrity of data, with a soft-mounted HDD to provide extra cushioning. Consumers will also find a 2nd-gen Intel Core processor, Intel's HD Graphics 3000, optional NVIDIA GPUs, multi-monitor support and a battery that can last up to 1000 cycles.

The new TravelMate Timeline 8x73 series is available in two formats 35.5 (14”) and 40 cm (15.6”), with a 1366x768 resolution and a 750GB HDD. Buyers can also opt for a 128GB SSD, up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a DVD Super-Multi drive. Port-wise, they feature a DVI port, HDMI socket, VGA port, USB 2.0/3.0 ports, and a DisplayPort. Of course, Ethernet and Wi-Fi is included, as well as a Crystal Eye 1.3MP webcam for video calling.

The Acer TravelMate Timeline 8x73 will be available mid August with an RRP starting from £499 ex Vat (TM8473T) and £599 ex Vat (TM8573TG), but there's no word yet on what the price will be elsewhere.
