Acer Swift 7 Ultrabook Brings Its Incredibly Thin And Light Frame To U.S. Starting At $1,100
Acer's bringing sexy back to the laptop landscape with its previously announced Swift 7, a svelte system billed as the world's thinnest with a waistline that measures a mere 0.39 inches. It's also staggeringly light at just 2.48 pounds, and if you've been waiting for this beauty to show up, we have good news—the Swift 7 is now available to order in the U.S. starting at $1,099.
The Swift 7 owes its ultra-thin and featherweight status to its aluminum unibody design. Acer didn't stop there, though, giving the Swift 7 a fantastic looking gold inner surface that contrasts nicely with its matte black exterior, at least from what we can tell from the press photos (we've yet to spy one of these systems in person).
There's more here than just a beautiful frame, the Swift 7 bring some brawn as well. The first model available in the Swift 7 series (SF713-51-M90J) features a 13.3-inch Full HD 1080p display (1920x1080) with an In-Plane Switching Panel powered by a 7th Generation Intel Core i5-7Y54 processor based on Intel's recently introduced Kaby Lake architecture.
The introductory model also boasts 8GB of LPDDR3 memory and a 256GB solid state drive, giving it a capable foundation to serve as an everyday workhorse. We don't suspect the CPU and integrated graphics are up to the task of handling intense content creation chores, but as a general purpose productivity machine with multimedia chops, the Swift 7 will probably suffice.
Other features include 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, an HDR webcam, two USB 3.1 Type-C ports (albeit Gen 1), a 4-cell (2,770 mAh) battery that Acer says is good for 9 hours of run time, and Windows 10 64-bit.
Standard (Type-A) USB ports are noticeably missing from the configuration, and in that way the Swift 7 is like Apple's MacBook. However, the Swift 7 brings two USB 3.1 Type-C ports to the table rather than just one, the distinction there being you can charge the Swift 7 while still having access to a USB 3.1 port without using an adapter.
