Activision Leaks Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Footage Ahead Of Official Reveal
The day has come for Activision to formally introduce Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. A reveal is scheduled for 10:00 am PT (1:00 pm ET) today. In the meantime, we already know that the next installment in the CoD franchise will be called Modern Warfare, and have even seen a small bit of footage, courtesy of an inadvertent leak by Activision.
For a brief time, some users reported seeing a low resolution preview of the upcoming trailer on YouTube. The thumbnail image for the video displayed both the name of the upcoming title and what we presume will be the box art, along with an October release. Oops!

In addition to all that, users were able to see some brief footage (also low-res) by hovering over the video. Activision has since removed the YouTube clip, but not before the Internet community at large could make some backups of the teaser, as shown in the embedded Twitter post above.
Other details will have to wait until later today. That said, Modern Warfare is set to be the 16th installment in the Call of Duty series, and the fourth main entry in the Modern Warfare world. Casual observers may find the naming scheme confusing, but here is a list in chronological order:
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (released in 2007)
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (released in 2009)
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (released on 2011)
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (will release in 2019)
There is also a remastered version of the first game in the Modern Warfare series called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. The upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare that is to be officially revealed today is said to be a "soft reboot" of the Modern Warfare trilogy. According to Kotaku and the sources it spoke with, the game will play on realistic emotions, inspired by the No Russian campaign in Modern Warfare 2, in which players could shoot civilians.
Beyond that, we will have to wait for today's reveal to learn details about the game's setting, plot, and more.
