NYT Apple Watch App Delivers News To Your Wrist, One Sentence At A Time

Light a candle for the 300-word news bite. The New York Times has announced its initiative to produce an app for the soon-to-be-everywhere (or not) Apple Watch that will offer all the news you need when you need it, in the form of one-sentence stories that are curated by an editorial team dedicated to the task.

The New York Times Apple Watch app — a free extension of the NYTimes on iPhone app — will provide news, accompanied by The Times's photography, from among many Times sections, including Business, Politics, Science, Tech, and The Arts. And readers who find a story to be worth more than just a cursory glance will be able to use Apple's Handoff feature to continue reading the story in full via their iPhones and iPads, too, or tap "Save for Later" to add the story to a personal reading list.

Unsurprisingly, the New York Times' breaking news alerts, which already reach over 15 million mobile devices, will also extend to the Apple Watch.

Editors working from three different continents will contribute to the mobile apps around the clock, so Apple Watch wearers need never worry about finding stale content displayed on their wrists.

Today's app announcement is a strong indicator of the media company's confidence in the success going forward of wearable tech, and in particular the Apple Watch, as up until now the company has not developed an app for a
smartwatch device.

Apple Watch wearers everywhere will be able to indulge in the app on the device's official release date: April 24.
