Alleged iPhone 8 Mold Leak Shows Size Comparisons With iPhone 7s And 7s Plus

It’s springtime, which means that iPhone rumors and leaks are ramping up at quickening pace. Last week, we were treated to speculative renders of the incoming iPhone 8 flagship, and today we are getting a look at alleged molds for the smartphone in comparison to its rumored iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus siblings.

The molds that have been presented are used by manufacturers that produce cases for iPhones. They of course need device specifications well in advance so that they can have cases ready to go as soon as a new Apple product is launched. The molds show that the iPhone 8 is just slightly larger than the iPhone 7s (which is expected to be identical in size to the current iPhone 7). The iPhone 7s Plus is still the hulking beast of the family, carrying a much larger foot print than the both the iPhone 7s and the iPhone 8.

The leaked mold also has a cutout for the rear camera module, which corroborates previous leaks that have suggested that the iPhone 8 will have a vertically-aligned dual-camera system (which is in contrast to the horizontal dual-lens setup on the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7s Plus)

Other items of note are that the iPhone 8 appears to be slightly thicker than the iPhone 7/iPhone 7s and more in line with the iPhone 7 Plus/iPhone 7s Plus. In addition, the iPhone 8 also appears to have a longer and slimmer power button on its right side.

The iPhone 8 is expected to include Apple’s brand new A11 processor, which could be produced on a 10nm manufacturing process. 3GB to 4GB of system RAM is said to be paired with the A11, while the iPhone 8 will have an edge-to-edge OLED display, under-the-display Touch ID sensor — which will do away with the traditional home button — and wireless charging.

Some analysts have suggested that the iPhone 8 could have a starting price of $999 for the base model with 128GB of onboard storage. Doubling storage to 256GB would take the price to $1,099. This elevated pricing for the iPhone 8 would allow the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus to take up the $649 and $749 price points, respectively.
