Alleged Samsung Galaxy S9 Leak Shows Familiar Design Theme

Alleged CAD drawings of the Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone have leaked online and the smartphone looks very much like the existing Galaxy S8. We see the same curved edges on the screen out front but with thinner bezels. The back does show a revised layout for the camera and fingerprint scanner.

On the current Galaxy S8 models, the camera is a single-lens unit and the fingerprint scanner is directly to the right of the camera -- a position that many don't care for at all. The S9 drawings, which are originally sourced from Weibo, show a dual camera layout on the back with those cameras stacked in the top center area. The fingerprint scanner is located below those lenses.

You can guarantee that lower camera will be festooned with smears and fingerprints with how close it is to the fingerprint scanner. Other than the new stacked cameras and fingerprint scanner, the backside of the alleged S9 looks very much like the S8.

It's worth noting that these renders has also been addressed by infamous leaker OnLeaks on Twitter, and its sources claim that these CAD drawings are fake or at least very outdated. It will be many months before we know if these leaks are accurate.

The leak cycle for the Galaxy S9 is kicking off in force. In late October we had a leak that claimed to be the Galaxy S9 logo. That leaks also tipped that the smartphone would boat 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage with Qualcomm SDM845 chipset for the U.S. and China with an Exynos 9 Octa 10nm SoC in other regions.

We also recently heard that Samsung has ditched its plans to use an under-glass fingerprint reader on the front of the S9 smartphones as it had originally planned. The CAD drawings here seem to confirm that with the fingerprint reader clearly located on the back of the smartphone.
