Amazon Echo Price Cut To $90 While Alexa Adds A Procreation Station To Pipe In Mood Music

If you’ve been sitting on the sidelines during this whole “AI smart speaker” revolution, then maybe now is the time to pull the trigger. Last month during its Prime Day sales extravaganza, Amazon was selling its original Echo for $89. Since that time, the price has skyrocketed back up to its original MSRP of $179.99.

However, retailers like Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, P.C. Richard & Son, and ABT are now matching the Prime Day price of $89.99. This sale price only lasts for today, so here’s your last chance to score an Echo at its all-time low price.

If the standard Echo is a little too big and “monolithic” for your tastes, its smaller Echo Dot sibling is also on sale. While the Echo Dot normally retails for $49.99, today’s one-day sale sees its price drop down to $34.99. The discount percentage on this deal isn’t nearly as big as on the standard Echo, but it’s cheap enough to make a great gift for a friend or relative (hey, it’s never too early to start gift shopping for the holidays).

What’s interesting, however, is that while third-party retailers are laying on the discounts for the Echo and Echo Dot, Amazon is still selling both at MSRP.

In addition to the Echo discounts, Amazon also announced today that Alexa has been enhanced with a new “music for activities” feature. Over 500 voice utterances are supported, which allow you to select a music playlist based on the what you’re doing at the time. Some of the examples that Amazon gives include "Alexa, play classical music for sleeping" and "Alexa, play pop music for cooking.”

But our personal favorite has to be, "Alexa, play baby making jazz music." Hey, who doesn’t like a little Kenny G to get into the mood?
