Amazon Echo Show 5 Alexa Smart Speaker Debuts With Attractive $90 Price Tag
The Echo Show 5 is roughly half the size of its Echo Show counterpart and even includes a front-facing camera with a built-in shutter for those that are concerned about privacy. Amazon sees the Echo Show 5 as being a device that you would want to place on your desk or a nightstand to quickly consume information or watch a brief video. Given its larger screen and more robust speaker system, it would probably be advisable to go with the 10-inch Echo Show to get more room-filling sound in your kitchen and read recipes without having to squint.
“Since we launched the first Echo Show device, customers have told us they love asking Alexa to show them things—whether it’s a recipe for banana bread, their shopping list, or music lyrics. With Echo Show 5, we’ve made it even easier and affordable for customers to add a smart display to every room of their house,” wrote Tom Taylor, SVP for Amazon Alexa.
Amazon is aggressively pricing the Echo Show 5, and it will sit at $89.99 when it ships on June 26. What's interesting is that it is priced $40 less than the Echo Spot with its incredibly small display. All other things being equal, we can't see why anyone would go with the Echo Spot now unless they simply want a slightly smaller form-factor or prefer the round display. Neither one of those "pluses" are worth paying an extra $40 in our opinion though.
The Echo Show 5 will be available in both Charcoal and Sandstone colors, and customers will be able to purchase a magnetic stand that can display the smart speaker at multiple angles for an additional $19.99.
