Amazon Lets Slip New Kindle Paperwhite, Starts Taking Pre-Orders
Amazon may have inadvertently let the cat out of the bag about its new model Kindle Paperwhite. Prior to any official announcement, a user on a Croatian web forum noticed that Amazon listed the second generation Kindle Paperwhite device on its website, though it was pulled offline as news began to spread. Not only is the site back up, but Amazon is now accepting pre-orders.
It's not clear if Amazon intended to launch its new Kindle Paperwhite today all along, or if it realized there are no do-overs on the Internet, so it might as well re-list the item and forge ahead. Either way, it's online now, and you can secure yours for $119 with Special Offers, or $139 without the homescreen ads.
There still isn't a press release announcing the new Kindle Paperwhite, though the product page reveals all the details you need to no. According to Amazon, the latest version is over 30 percent lighter than an iPad mini. It uses a new display technology that results in higher contrast and better reflectivity, and also has a next generation built-in light.
Other improvements include a 25 percent faster processor, better touch technology (19 percent lighter touch grid), and a bunch of software enhancements, such as Smart Lookup and Kindle Page Flip.
Any bets on how long it will take for it to be jailbroken?
