AMD Radeon RX 470 Reportedly Dropping To $169 To Compete With Incoming GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
We're not the only ones who read the rumors, you can bet that hardware companies do as well. One of the rumors swirling right now is that NVIDIA's getting ready to release a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card, which will bring the awesome power of Pascal to gamers on a tighter budget. It appears AMD wants to steal some thunder from that launch by marking down its Radeon RX 470 graphics card.
The Radeon RX 470 debuted at $179, a reasonable price for a reasonably fast graphics card. However, it's about to get cheaper—the folks at TweakTown believe they have it on good authority that AMD will cut $10 off the price of the Radeon RX 470, bringing the MSRP down to $169. While that isn't much of a price cut, it's enough to make things interesting.
While nothing is yet official, the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is expected to retail for $149. That would make it $20 cheaper than the Radeon RX 470, but for those who can afford to pony up an extra Andrew Jackson, they'll be rewarded with presumably a faster card. How much faster remains to be seen, but even a tiny bump in performance could compel some users to spend a little extra on Polaris.
As for specs, the Radeon RX 470 is based on the Polaris 10 Pro. It has 2,048 stream processors, 32 compute units, and 4GB of GDDR5 memory pumping data through a 256-bit bus. Base and boost clockspeeds are set at 926MHz and 1,206MHz, respectively.
Less official are the specs for the unreleased and unannounced GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. It's said to have 768 CUDA cores and feature base and boost clocks of 1,290MHz and 1,382MHz, respectively. This is rounded out by 4GB of GDDR5 memory on a narrower 128-bit bus.
