AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Shows Signs Of Greatness With 4.05GHz Overclock, 3466MHz DDR4 Speeds

AMD Ryzen CPU fans who aren’t in the market for the higher-end processors will be happy to hear that another set of benchmarks has leaked pointing to the overclocking prowess of the upcoming AMD Ryzen 5 2600 CPU, which was accomplished using a high-end X370 mainboard. The user doing all the overclocking is a Discord user who goes by the name "Mow" and has provided CPU-Z and other images to prove his overclocking claims.

The Ryzen 2600 was overclocked to maximum of 4.05 GHz and had DDR4 RAM running at 3,466 MHz. A link to Geekbench results for the chip also shows the same overclocking results and gave a single-core CPU score of 5,025 and a multi-core score of 23,972.

We have seen the Ryzen 5 2600 CPU leak in Geekbench benchmarks before, but in those benchmarks, it was running at its base 3.4GHz base clock with maximum 3.9 GHz single core boost clock. In those stock scores, Geekbench gave the CPU a single-core score of 4,269 and a multi-core score of 20,102.

The performance of this chip is especially nice considering the $199 price it's expected to carry when it launches later this month. It will compete directly against the Intel Core i5-8400 that sells for about $182. One key difference between those two parts is that the Ryzen 2600 is a 6-core/12-thread part while the Intel CPU is a 6 core offering but doesn't support HyperThreading.

If you are wondering, the mainboard that Mow used for his overclocking was an ASRock X370 Taichi running the P4.60 BIOS. One caveat is that features of the Ryzen 5 2600 chip like XFR 2.0 and Precision Boost 2.0 aren't supported by that board. Other benchmarks run on the chip include 3DMark Time Spy and Firestrike, the Firestrike score was 16,139 and Timespy score was 6,272.

Benchmarks for the Ryzen 7 2700X also leaked recently, so we're getting really close to the official launch of AMD's next generation Ryzen family.
