AMD Ryzen 3000 Matisse CPUs, X570 Motherboards And Radeon Navi GPUs Rumored For July 7 Launch

The enthusiast community is eagerly awaiting the arrival of AMD's third-generation Ryzen 3000 series processors. These Ryzen 3000 processors are based on 7-nanometer Zen 2 architecture, which is codenamed Matisse, and will take the fight directly to Intel’s popular Core processor family.

AMD gave us our first glimpse at an 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen 3000 processor at this year's Consumer Electronics Shows, where it put up performance comparable to Intel's mighty Core i9-9900K. Now, a new report from RedGamingTech suggests that these new mainstream processors will come to market in July. More specifically, the publication says that its sources have indicated a launch date of July 7th, 2019 (7/7/2019). It should be noted the Radeon VII launched on February 7th. The assumption is that AMD is playing up the 7nm process tech used on these new chips with these “7” dates.

The above date is when the processors are expected to be publicly available, which means that AMD will likely announce them well before; perhaps at Computex 2019.

Dr Su Ryzen 3000

Although AMD has only confirmed Ryzen 3000 processors with up to 8 cores, we've seen evidence that there could be a 12-core, 24-thread SKU incoming (and perhaps even a 16-core, 32-thread beast according to one rumor). In an interview conducted after her CES keynote, AMD CEO Lisa Su stated that "you might expect that we will have more than eight cores."

With that in mind, references to a 12-core Ryzen 3000 processor were spotted in the UserBenchmark database with a base clock of 3.4GHz and a [relatively low] boost clock of 3.6GHz. Compared to the Ryzen 7 2700X, single-core performance showed a roughly 13 percent uplift in instructions per clock (IPC).

Complementing the Ryzen 3000 processors will be motherboards based on AMD's X570 chipset; it's assumed that these boards will also launch on July 7th. Late last month, we saw references to a slew of new X570-based ASRock motherboards that found their way to the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) website. Although the new Ryzen 3000 processors will still work on X470 motherboards (with a firmware update), the X570 platform should bring support for PCIe 4.0 and other performance tweaks.

AMD GPU roadmap

Finally, the same report says that the first 7nm Radeon Navi mainstream GPUs will also land in early July. Navi will represent a big GPU architecture shift for AMD, and it will market the cards towards the gaming sector. Navi is also expected to underpin the graphics pipeline of upcoming consoles from Microsoft and Sony, but those announcements will likely come at a later date.

That definitely is a lot for AMD to release on one day, so we'll have to take this information with a grain of salt at this point. Most recently, we heard news that Navi had actually been delayed until Q4 2019. With that being said, regardless of when Navi is actually released, 2019 is shaping up to be a big year for AMD and the gaming community will likely be very pleased with what the company has on the docket.
