AMD Ryzen 9 3900 Allegedly Leaks With 12-Cores And Lower 65W TDP
Today, we're getting information on yet another addition to the Ryzen 3000 family: the Ryzen 9 3900 (sans the "X" designation). The Ryzen 9 3900 is allegedly similar to the Ryzen 9 3900X in that they both feature a 12-core/24-thread configuration, 6MB of L2 cache, and 64MB of L3 cache.
The primary differences are with clock frequencies and thermal design power (TDP). Whereas the Ryzen 9 3900X has a base clock of 3.8GHz and a boost clock of 4.6GHz, the Ryzen 9 3900 lowers the base frequency to 3.1GHz (the boost clock is unidentified). As for the TDP, we've seen that figure fall from 105 watts down to 65 watts, which is in line with mainstream Ryzen 5 3000 and Ryzen 7 3000 product families. All of this information was gleaned from a support document update from Biostar which outlines CPU compatibility for its motherboards.
Given that the Ryzen 9 3900X is priced at $499 and the Ryzen 7 3800X is priced at $399, the only logical price point for the Ryzen 9 3900Z would be at $449. The big question, however, is when will AMD release the Ryzen 9 3900, and the still unannounced Ryzen 5 3900 and Ryzen 5 3500X. Those latter two processors have six cores, but have SMT disabled (i.e. only 6 threads can be executed).
It seems as though we could see the Ryzen 5 3500 and Ryzen 5 3500X released sooner rather than later given how much information has already leaked on the processors, while we could possibly see the Ryzen 9 3900 debut in November alongside the $749 Ryzen 9 3950X. All of this is just pure speculation on our part, so take it all with a healthy dose of salt.
