AMD Expands Ryzen Pro With Radeon Graphics Processor Family For Enterprise Desktop And Mobile Markets

Today marks the official launch of AMD’s latest additions to the Ryzen Pro family, which include new processors with integrated Radeon Vega graphics. AMD has released Ryzen Pro APUs for both desktop and mobile form-factors, and all include features specifically geared towards business customers. 

With AMD's new Ryzen Pro offerings, you’ll find security-centric features like AMD GuardMI Technology with on-chip DRAM memory encryption, secure boot, fTPM/TPM 2.0, and what the company calls “enterprise-grade” reliability. On that latter point, AMD is guaranteeing a stable supply of chips for its enterprise customers, with at least 18 months of software updates, two years of guaranteed processor availability, and a 3-year warranty (compared to a 1-year warranty for consumer Ryzen processors).

As for the APUs that AMD is unleashed, there are three new SKUs each, for the mobile market and for the desktop market -- all of which are still built on a 14nm FinFET manufacturing process. On the mobile side, we have the 3.8GHz Ryzen Pro 7 2700U and the 3.6GHz Ryzen Pro 5 2500U. Both of these APUs have 4 cores/8 threads and a TDP of 12 to 25 watts, but the former has 10 Radeon Compute Units (CUs), while the latter makes do with 8 CUs. The 3.4GHz Ryzen Pro 3 2300U, which is not SMT-enabled, has 4 cores/4 threads and 6 CUs.

For desktop systems, there are the Ryzen 5 Pro 2400G/2400GE and Ryzen Pro 3 2200G/2200GE. The “GE” variants have slightly lower clock speeds than their “G” series desktop counterparts, but much lower TDP ratings (35 watts versus 65 watts).

We’ve already seen two product families from HP that feature the new Ryzen Pro mobile processors: the EliteBook 705 G5 and ProBook 645 G4 notebooks. However, HP is also launching the EliteDesk 705 G4 series, which is available in Desktop Mini, Mini Tower and Small Form-Factor configurations.

Lenovo is introducing the ThinkCentre M715 and ThinkCentre M725s along with the ThinkPad A285 and ThinkPad A485. And not to be outdone, Dell is launching the Latitude 5495, which can be powered by the Ryzen 3 Pro 2300U, Ryzen 5 Pro 2500U or the Ryzen 7 Pro 2700U.

In Dell's machine, up to 32GB of DDR4-2400 memory is supported and its 14-inch display supports Full HD resolution. Besides the requisite 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, there’s also optional LTE connectivity courtesy of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X7 modem.

AMD also noted, "during an event in front of global press and industry analysts last week, several top global PC OEMs unveiled a breadth of commercial platform offerings including light but powerful enterprise notebooks, robust enterprise desktops, compact enterprise micro towers and small form factor desktops, all powered by Ryzen PRO processors with Radeon Vega Graphics."
