AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1920 12-Core 140 Watt CPU Confirmed By Motherboard Manufacturers

AMD's Ryzen processors have certainly grabbed the attention of PC gamers and enthusiasts. In fact, AMD laid much of its quarterly success at the feet of Ryzen processors. Back in late July we heard that AMD was working on some new additions to the Ryzen Threadripper family of processors. These parts include some Ryzen offerings sans the "X" designation, including a Threadripper 1920 processor.

Today some new details are surfacing from boardmakers that again tip AMD is looking to roll out more Ryzen parts, and that Ryzen Threadripper 1920 is mentioned specifically in this leak. The new information was gleaned in the CPU support pages for ASUS, Gigabyte, and ASRock. All three of those boardmakers list compatibility for the Threadripper 1920; the rub is that the Threadripper 1920 hasn't been announced by AMD.

You wouldn't be alone if you assume the compatibility listing on the pages for these board makers means the Ryzen 1920 Threadripper was close to launch. However, word is that ASUS has pulled the entire support page or the ROG Zenith Extreme mainboard, which was one of the pages showing support for the unannounced Ryzen Threadripper 1920, so we have no real idea when that launch might happen.

The Gigabyte website went a bit further than just listing compatibility for the 1920, it also says that that the processor would have a clock speed of 3.2GHz and a boost clock of 3.8GHz. That chip is expected to be a 12-core, 24-thread unit. With slower clock speeds and the missing "X" designator, the Threadripper 1920 is expected to slurp less power as well with a max of 140W compared to the 180W rating for the "X" parts.

Pricing is a mystery, but we can assume the Threadripper 1920 will be priced somewhere between the Threadripper 1900X ringing in at $549 and the Threadripper 1920X at $799. If you want more details on the Threadripper 1900X, you can check out our coverage of that part.
