Analyst Predicts iPhone 5S Coming in June with Multiple Color Options

The next iPhone model may ship in a variety of colors. Jefferies analyst Peter Misek wrote in a note to investors that the rumored iPhone 5S is destined for a June 2013 release, and that it will be available in 6-8 color options. It's unclear if he has some inside info he's working with, or if he's basing his prediction on the fact that Apple's newest generation iPod touch comes in black, white, pink, yellow, blue, and red.

As Misek sees it, the iPhone 5S will include a new super HD camera/screen, an upgraded battery, and NFC support, SFGate reports. Other than the release time frame, Misek isn't really go out on a limb with any of his predictions. NFC support is almost a given after it was skipped on the iPhone 5, and none of the other features he mentions are game changers.

Launching the iPhone 5S in June is a bit more interesting, as far as predictions go. It would be a departure from Apple's recent release time frames, though a June release isn't unprecedented. Here's how things have shaken out up to this point:
  • iPhone 5: September 21, 2012
  • iPhone 4S: October 14, 20111
  • iPhone 4: June 24, 2010
  • iPhone 3GS: June 19, 2009
  • iPhone 3G: July 11, 2008
  • iPhone: June 29, 2007

With increased competition from Android devices, and Samsung in particular, along with Microsoft making a push with Windows Phone 8, it wouldn't be all that shocking if Apple reverted back to a mid-year release for its next iPhone.
