Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) SDK Is Now Out: Start Your Development Engines!

Honeycomb! It's real! Android 3.0 has been somewhat of a mystery over the past few months, but now that Google has confirmed its existence and Motorola has committed to shipping it on the Xoom tablet, there's just one more major piece of the puzzle: developers. Those developers are being given a huge gift today, as Google has released the final build of the Honeycomb SDK. This simply means that developers of Android applications now have the final toolkit necessary to produce and publish apps to the Android Market that are tailored to work within the Android 3.0 framework.

The new API level is being deemd "11," and Google has confirmed that you can "now develop apps targeting this new platform and publish them to Android Market." This new SDK is providing quite a few changes, including a new palette with categories and rendering previews, more accurate rendering of layouts, selection-sensitive action bars, zoom improvements, traceview integration for easier profiling from ADT and tools for using the Renderscript graphics engine.

Exciting stuff -- now, let's get to kickin', developers!
