Angry Birds Creator Announces Slingshot-Free Followup: Bag Piggies

We may not cover casual gaming too often here, but when it comes to a global phenomenon like Angry Birds, it's worth alerting the world that something is up. And that something is a new Rovio title en route. The creators of Angry Birds have today announced their newest game, Bad Piggies, launching September 27 for iOS, Android and Mac, with Windows Phone, Windows 8 and other PC counterparts to ship after that. What's wild is that this game is supposedly taking a different route -- there won't be a slingshot in sight. That's a massively different direction, and while the company has seen success in pivoting with Angry Birds Space, this will be the first true test not using the Angry Birds monicker. Here's a bit from the company; it isn't releasing too much intel at the moment, but just enough to tease you into a frenzy prior to the holiday season.

"There's a lot of empathy towards the lovable enemies from the Angry Birds games, and we've been constantly asked: what about the pigs' side of the story?" said Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio. "Bad Piggies gives you the chance to play as the second-most-loved characters in the Angry Birds universe, and explore this rich world through their green eyes."

"We've had a lot of fun creating a totally new and unique gameplay experience," said Petri Järvilehto, EVP Games at Rovio. "There's so much more to these pigs than what is seen in the Angry Birds games, and Bad Piggies is the first glimpse into what's going on in the imaginative and ingenious minds of the pigs."
