AOC Builds In Stereo 7W Onkyo Speakers To 24-Inch Full HD IPS Monitor

AOC’s new 24-inch monitor looks nice enough at first blush, with a relatively thin silver bezel and what is no doubt a crisp, bright image, but underneath is where the good stuff is located. The company built a pair of 7W Onkyo speakers into the base.

AOC is billing this display (the i2473Pwm) as “ideal entertainment hub” because of it. The 24-inch LED-backlit IPS monitor also features full HD resolution as well as one VGA and two HDMI inputs.

It offers 5ms response time, the ability to tilt -5 degrees to 20 degrees, and it comes with a 75x75mm VESA mount. But obviously, the company is most exciting about the speakers. “This provides higher quality audio than other monitor drivers, which are typically placed behind the screen, producing stifled, inferior sound,” reads a press release. “The AOC monitor’s built-in speakers pack enough sound to eliminate the need for additional desktop speakers, allowing you to free up more desk space for multiple monitor configurations.”

Whether or not the Onkyo speakers can actually replace a solid set of standalone desktop speakers is a matter of debate, to be sure, but it’s nice to see that there’s an alternative to them.

The i2473Pwm will soon be available on Amazon for $249.
