Apple's iOS 13 Is Rumored To Kick These iPhone Models To The Curb

iPhone 6s Plus
Are you rocking an older iPhone model? If so, there is a chance that Apple will cut off support for your handset when it releases iOS 13, which is expected to debut next month. Nothing is set in stone at this moment, or more precisely, this information has not been confirmed. But if the latest rumor is true, iPhone 6 and older generation handsets will be left in the dust.

That is the word from a French-language website that covers Apple-related news. Citing a "developer friend" (Google translation), iPhonesoft.fr says iOS 13 will support every iPhone handset dating back to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, but not the regular iPhone 6 and earlier versions. That means the following devices will be cut off (if the rumor is true)...
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 5s
The site says iOS 13 will also kick the iPad mini 2 and original iPad Air to the curb. So, a list of supported devices, both phones and tablets, includes the following...
  • 2019 iPhone models (iPhone XI and iPhone XIR?)
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone 6s
  • 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2016 and 2017)
  • 10.5-inch iPhone Pro
  • 9.7-inch iPad Pro
  • 11-inch iPad Pro (2018)
  • iPad Air 3
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad 6
  • iPad 5
  • iPad mini 3 and 4
For owners of older iPhone and iPad devices, dropping support in iOS 13 would be a bummer. To be fair, though, Apple is not drop kicking any recent devices—the iPhone 6 family first arrived five years ago, in 2014, and those who shelled out for an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus will get at least one more iOS upgrade, according to the rumor.

On the tablet side, the iPad Air debuted all the way back in 2012, and the iPad mini 2 in 2013. Consider it a good run if the rumor turns out to be true.

One thing to keep in mind is that even if iOS 13 does not support certain devices, those devices will not magically stop working. They just won't have the latest version from Apple. As it pertains to that, iOS 13 is expected to deliver a dark mode, new iPad gesture commands, a new multi-window feature for apps, and some other tidbits.

Apple is expected to announced iOS 13 at WWDC next month.
