Apple iPad Air 2 Rumors Point To Bonded Display, Custom A8 Processor, Touch ID Sensor

Apple typically lets a year lapse in between iPad releases, the one exception being the iPad 4, which came out eight months after the iPad 3 and shifted the release schedule to the holiday shopping season. If Apple sticks to this schedule, we can expect an iPad Air 2 launch this November. The question is, what feature upgrades can we expect?

Well, the rumors are starting to trickle in, and one of them suggests a subtle but significant change to the display. It's said that Apple might bond the LCD and cover glass together, which is something it's been doing with the iPhone line since the introduction of the iPhone 4. This might not sound like a big deal, but this small change makes a noticeable difference in a few areas -- it allows for a thinner tablet, increases the viewing angle, and makes it look like the display is sitting right on the surface.

iPad Air

Another rumor floating around is that Apple will power its next iPad Air model with a custom designed A8 SoC (System-on-Chip) produced in bulk by TSMC along with rival Samsung picking up the slack (these two can't seem to break free of each other).

Other rumors we've heard include the possibility of a 12.9-inch version of the iPad, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a new version of Apple's Touch ID sensor. As with previous iPad releases, the next iPad Air is expected to start at $499, though like everything else stated here, that hasn't been confirmed.
