Apple iPhone 8 Could Cost $999 With 128GB Of Storage Claims Analyst
Apple’s flagship iPhone models have never been thought of as “affordable”, and that may be even more apparent with the upcoming iPhone 8. According to research note from Goldman Sachs analyst Simona Jankowski, the iPhone 8 could start at a wallet-busting $999.
Not surprisingly, this isn’t the first time that we’ve heard that the iPhone 8 would flirt with the $1,000 mark. According to Jankowski, the base iPhone 8 will come with 128GB of storage, forgoing the 32GB SKU currently present on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. This is understandable, as it would be a crime for Apple to release a $1,000 smartphone with 32GB of onboard storage and no way of expanding capacity via a microSD slot.
It’s also expected that a 256GB capacity will be offered with a price tag of $1,099.
The elevation in pricing for the iPhone 8 could make room for the expected iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus to take the price points held by the current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. As a result, it’s expected that those smartphones will be priced from $649 and $769 respectively.
That would in effect kick the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus down to the $549 and $649 price brackets, pushing out the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus completely, and leaving the iPhone SE to carry on entry-level duties.
It’s widely expected that the iPhone 8 will be powered by an all-new Apple A11 processor, include 3GB to 4GB of system RAM, an edge-to-edge OLED display, under-the-display Touch ID and wireless charging. It’s also expected that Apple will retain the Lightning connector at the bottom of the device, although earlier reports suggested that the company would adopt the more universal USB Type-C interface.
