Apple's New iPhones And A11 Bionic CPU Annihilate Geekbench Scores From All Android Phones To Date

Now that the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X are no longer a secret, benchmark scores for all three are beginning to make their way to Geekbench. These new results confirm what we all witnessed last week, and prove that all three devices pack considerable more processing muscle than what is available from the current Qualcomm Snapdragon 835-powered Android competition.

We can see that the iPhone 8 takes the gold in both single-core and multi-core portions of the test. The iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X take the silver and the bronze respectively in both single- and multi-core benchmarks. The iPhone X might be the flagship of the 2017 iPhone family, but it looks as though the cheaper iPhone 8 holds a slight advantage with respect to performance (at least using Geekbench as a reference).

We should note that in our own testing, the next closest Android device in contention is the Snapdragon 835-equipped Motorola Moto Z2 force, which put up single- and multi-core scores of 1917 and 6643 respectively. The A11 Bionic-equipped iPhones more than doubles the single-core score and offer a nearly 50 percent improvement with respect to multi-core performance.

Android device makers have long been able to boast about higher core counts, higher clock frequencies and more memory compared to their iOS counterparts, and that still remains the case today. The Snapdragon 835 is an eight-core design, and devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and OnePlus 5 pair the SoC with a staggering 6GB of RAM. For all the complaints about Apple's walled garden with regards to software, it is hard to fault the company’s results when it comes to top-to-bottom control of hardware and software stack for its iOS-based devices.

The iPhone 8 has a starting price of $699, while the iPhone 8 Plus is priced from $799. Both devices went up for preorder on Friday morning and will be arriving in customers' hands on September 22^nd. The iPhone X, on the other hand, is priced from $999 and will be available for preorder on October 27^th (it will ship November 2^nd). All 2017 iPhones come in a base configuration of 64GB and can be optioned with 256GB for an additional $150. For those of you with active mental calculators, that means that the 256GB iPhone X costs a jaw-dropping $1,149.
