Apple Lets Loose the Legal Beagles on HTC
Apple apparently has its legal panties in a bunch over four patents the Cupertino company is accusing HTC of violating. As outlined in court documents, the patents deal with software and technologies found in Apple's smarphones and other mobile devices, one of those being a patent for "slide to unlock" start-screen technology, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Two of the other patents Apple is accusing HTC of violating include one that deals with a new power-management scheme and another for a "system for real-time adaption to changes in display configuration."
This isn't the first time the two companies have squared off in a legal showdown. Back in March, Apple sued HTC for allegedly violating 10 of its patents, as well as filed a suit involving 10 patents with the U.S. International Trade Commission. Two months later, HTC fired back with a patent lawsuit of its own, accusing Apple of infringing on five of its patents and requesting that the trade court ban Apple from selling the iPhone, iPad, and iPod in the U.S. market.
While the dispute is between Apple and HTC, there are some who believe there's a larger motive behind Apple's actions, specifically that Jobs and company wants to drive Google's Android OS off a cliff, or at the very least out of the U.S.
