Apple May Launch 8GB iPhone 5C to Compete with Low Cost Android Handsets

Apple is doing pretty well for itself in the smartphone market, but there's always room to do better, especially in the lower-end segment where inexpensive Android devices are virtually unchallenged. To offer up some increased competition, Apple is rumored to be releasing an iPhone 5C model with 8GB of internal storage tomorrow.

At present, Apple offers its colorful iPhone 5C family in 16GB and 32GB SKUs. If purchased from Apple's online store, they run $99 and $199, respectively, with a two-year service agreement with AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon. Alternately, you can purchase SIM-free variants that run $549 for 16GB and $649 for 32GB.

According to MacRumors, pricing has not yet been revealed for the forthcoming 8GB model, though the site feels pretty good about the legitimacy of reports that such a SKU is in the works. The latest evidence supporting the rumor is a photo of the packaging label from the 8GB iPhone 5C.

Reports also indicate that the 8GB model will be available in all existing color options -- white, pink, yellow, blue, and green. If we had to venture a guess on pricing, we'd say there's a good chance Apple will sell the 8GB iPhone 5C for around $49 with a two-year service agreement.
