Apple Releases New Mac Pro & Xserve

While it isn't a surprise to see Apple releasing new models based on the latest and greatest Intel CPUs, today's updates to the Mac Pro are far more than a simple CPU bump.

“Other improvements include 2GB (2x1GB) of RAM standard, PCIe 2.0 slots, built-in Bluetooth standard, and an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT video card with 256MB of memory and two dual-link DVI ports, supporting dual 30-inch displays out of the box.

Processor options include: single 2.8GHz quad-core, dual 2.8GHz quad-core, dual 3.0GHz quad-core, and dual 3.2GHz quad-core.

Video card upgrades include NVIDIA's GeForce 8800GT with 512MB of memory, and the Quadro FX 5600 with 1.5GB of memory.”

There are no performance numbers in from Mac review sites, but one would expect to see some pretty large gains in just about any test given the number of components/systems that received a major performance boost.

An updated Xserve will also be available shortly, though we don't expect it to feature as many high-end graphics choices.
