Apple Reportedly Testing New iPhone Model with 1GB of RAM
With the rate at which Apple releases new products, it's never too early to start talking about the next iteration of any particularly iDevice. Right now the chatter is centered on the next iPhone model, perhaps to be called the iPhone 5 or simply the 'new' iPhone. Whatever it ends up being called, Apple is said to already have a prototype in-house with some interesting upgrades.
According to 9to5Mac, the prototype iPhone sports the same physical design as the iPhone 4/4S, though don't be fooled. "The actual next-generation iPhone is specifically said to not include the iPhone 4/4S design, but Apple is testing these new devices in older casings to throw off leaks," 9to5Mac claims. Or maybe Apple grew tired of people picking up lost iPhone prototypes in bars and selling to the highest bidder.
iFixIt's teardown analysis of the iPhone 4S revealed that it was packing 512MB of RAM. Will the next iPhone double the amount of memory?
Inside the old casing are new parts, including a variation of the A5X processor used in the third generation iPad. The feeling in Cupertino is that the next iPhone doesn't require the same amount of horsepower as a 9.7-inch iPad with a Retina display, so it won't use an identical chip, but it will be based on the one in the iPad.
Also like the iPad, Apple's next generation iPhone wields 1GB of RAM, a logical upgrade as smartphones are asked to do more demanding tasks and take on bigger multitasking loads.
