Apple Says October 16th iPad Event Has ‘Been Way Too Long’ In The Making

Apple is a company that knows a thing or two about marketing and how to generate hype. All those leaked product pics that inevitably precede a launch? You can bet that Apple is behind the scenes pulling the strings in effort to work consumers up into a frenzy. So, what's Apple up to now? Cryptic messages, that's what.

The Cupertino company has begun sending out invitations to members of the press for its upcoming October 16 event. On the invitation is a cryptic message that reads," It's been way too long." Since it's expected that Apple will unveil a new iPad model during the upcoming event, the obvious interpretation is that it's been a long time since the company last refreshed its tablet. But could it mean something else?

That's a good question. Apple is a fan of using double meanings, though we're having a tough time coming up with an alternate interpretation beyond the literal.

Whatever it means, we won't have to wait all that long to find out -- October 16 is next Thursday. In addition to another iPad model, there have been rumors of a new MacBook Air with a Retina-class display and touch support, a revamped 27-inch iMac with possibly a 5K resolution display, and the full release of Mac OS X Yosemite, which is currently available in beta form.

As for the iPad, there has been chatter of Apple stretching the display to 12.9 inches. However, a recent report suggested that those plans have been pushed back until next year so that Apple's panel makers can focus on building enough displays to meet the high demand of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
