Apple ships games for new iPods

Apple's iTunes store now has games for sale that work with the newly released third-generation iPod nano (with video), iPod classic and fifth-generation iPod (with video).

Apple CEO Steve Jobs  first indicated that the new iPods would be able to play games at Apple's "The Beat Goes On" special event held in San Francisco, and said that the games would be available in a few weeks.

While Tetris, Ms. Pac-Man and Sudoku have already been available for fifth-generation iPods, this marks the first time the games have been released to be compatible with 3G iPod nanos and new iPod classics.

If you already purchased these games for your 5G iPod, don't expect a free upgrade.  The games have been "reformatted" for the new iPods, and will have to be repurchased.  Not really a surprise, considering Apple wants you to pay 99¢ for a song, then 99¢ more to turn it into a ringtone, unlike many phones, which allow you to use any MP3 as a ringtone.
