Apple Slashes Return Policy On Fancy New iPhones From 30 Days To 2 Weeks
Up until recently, you could purchase an iPhone from Apple (online or in an Apple Retail Store) and have a full 30 days to return it for a full refund, provided it was in new condition and repackaged with all of the original contents. According to Apple's revised return policy, you can still return an undamaged iPhone for a full refund, but the time period to do so has been slashed in half to 14 days.
"You have 14 calendar days to return an item from the date you receive it. For an Apple iPhone, you have 14 calendar days," Apple's return policy states.
According to 9to5Mac, part of the reason Apple made the change was to avoid confusion. Wireless carriers typically offer a 14-day return period on iPhone devices before Early Termination Fees (ETF) and other costs kick in. That would apply even if a customer purchased an iPhone direct from Apple, though because Apple's terms stated a 30-day return period, it's likely some customers thought they had a full month to change their mind and still avoid carrier penalties.
The other thing Apple accomplishes here is having the same return policy for all items. Previous to the change, only iPhone devices qualified for a 30-day return period.
