Apple Support Rep Says The Company Will Replace Bent iPhones Upon Visual Inspection

It's still being determined just how widespread the issue pertaining to bent iPhone 6 Plus models really is. Bendgate, as it's being called, has received lots of media attention, though Apple contends that they're isolated incidents with complaints to company still in the single digits (nine in all) six days post launch. At the end of the day, for those who have a bent iPhone 6 Plus, it doesn't really matter if you're one of a few or one of many, you just want your device fixed, and it looks like Apple will oblige.

The folks at The Next Web posted a chat transcript with a support rep at Apple. When asked if a bent enclosure during normal use qualifies for warranty repair, the support rep essentially said it's a case by case basis in which a visual inspection is required.

"That is 100 percent up to the Genius that you speak with at the store. There is a test called a Visual Mechanical Inspection that the device will have to pass," the support rep explains. "If it is within the guidelines, they will be able to cover it. If not, the replacement would be a paid one."

When pressed for clarification of what would fall "within the guidelines,' the support rep said that information isn't given to chat support staff. However, the rep did add that Apple is looking into the issue with an "insane amount of detail," in case that gives any warm fuzzies.
