Apple TV 4K Finally Brings Support For UHD HDR Streaming
Now, two years later, Apple is rectifying that "mistake" with the Apple TV 4K. The Apple TV's internal hardware has been beefed up to include a triple-core A10 Fusion processor and 3GB of RAM (the same CPU used in the iPad Pro), which is a huge upgrade compared to its predecessor, which features an A8 processor and 2GB of RAM. It is also twice as fast as its predecessor, and offers a 4x graphics uplift to handle the rigors of Ultra High Definition video.
As its name implies Apple's latest streaming device supports 4K streaming, and Dolby Vision HDR is also supported (as long as you have the device plugged into a compatible HDMI 2.0 port). 4K content will be delivered to iTunes at no additional cost compared to existing HD content. In addition, if you’ve already purchased an HD movie or TV show in HD, you will automatically be able to access the 4K version through iTunes. And as you might expect, the Apple TV 4K will also of course support 4K streaming content from Netflix and Amazon Video.
The new Apple TV 4K is priced at $179 with 32GB of onboard storage, or $199 with 64GB of onboard storage. It will be available to order on September 15th, and will launch one week later.
