Apple's New iPhones Go For A Swim For Over An Hour With No Damage, Virtually Waterproof
There are several reasons why you might want to an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus. Apple upgraded the processor to a custom A9 chip that supposedly runs circles around the competition, it improved the cameras and added a feature call Live Photos, 3D Touch (basically Force Touch) is part of the equation, and added a "Rose Gold" color option, to name a few of Apple's selling points. But might Apple's new devices also be waterproof?
Apple isn't advertising the feature, which could be a huge selling point for accident prone or otherwise adventurous individuals, but a video on YouTube suggests that the new phones aren't afraid to take a dip in the drink.
Zach Straley, otherwise known as zeedude22 on Twitter, posted a video showing the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus submerged in bowls of water for a full hour. He pulls them out a couple of times throughout the time elapsed clip to test their functionality, and in each instance, the iPhones appear to operate normally.
The screens display fine without any artifacts, swiping and 3D Touch both work, and the camera fires up without any water spots or other abnormalities. His limited tests suggest a watertight construction that, oddly enough, Apple isn't celebrating.
One thing Straley doesn't demonstrate in the video is if the Lightning port, headphone jack, speakers, and microphone all work. However, he mentions on both Twitter and in the comments section of his video that all of them function normally. So in other words, submerging the new iPhone models in water appears to have no negative effects, though we don't suggest trying this at home.
