The hypercar wars show no signs of easing up, and just months after Bugatti dazzled us with its Chiron, Aston Martin is raising eyebrows with the stunningly beautiful AM-RB 001. The vehicle is a collaboration between Aston Martin and Red Bull, and the price of entry for potential customers is a staggering $3 million.

Aston Martin is incredibly light on details at the moment, but here’s what we do know. There will two variants of the car produced: a street version that aims to be the fastest production car in the world (watch out, Chiron), while an even more hardcore racing version will be just as fast as today’s LMP1 Le Mans prototypes. Aston Martin will produce as many as 150 examples of the street version for extremely well-heeled customers and just 25 track versions.

It’s also been revealed the AM-RB 001 will be powered by a naturally-aspirated, mid-mounted V12 engine. The vehicle will also have an F1-inspired carbon fiber monocoque chassis that will help keep weight down enough to give the AM-RB 001 a 1:1 power ratio (1 bhp per kilogram).

"I've always been adamant that the AM-RB 001 should be a true road car that's also capable of extreme performance on track, and this means it really has to be a car of two characters,” said Adrian Newey, chief technical officer of the Red Bull Racing Formula One team. “That's the secret we're trying to put into this car – the technology that allows it to be docile and comfortable, but with immense outright capabilities."

“My personal challenge has been expressing the AM-RB 001’s extraordinary performance and the unique way in which it delivers that performance. Its style reflects its revolutionary nature, while possessing the form and beauty that makes it unmistakably an Aston Martin,” added Aston Martin’s Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman.

The first deliveries of the AM-RB 001 are expected to begin in 2018, and when it does arrive, we can’t wait to see the inevitable head-to-head matchup with the Chiron.
