ASUS Launches 32-Inch ProArt PA32UC 4K Monitor With Ultra-High Brightness Level For True HDR Support

Graphics professionals and anyone looking for a larger size HDR monitor may want to take not of something new that ASUS cooked up. As we head into the weekend, ASUS launched its ProArt PA32UC, a 32-inch monitor with an In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel and enough brightness to drive a true high dynamic range (HDR) experience, which is not something to take for granted when shopping an HDR monitor.

Here's the thing about HDR. Whether it's a television or a computer monitor, ideally you want a display that is capable of cranking up the brightness to 1,000 nits (cd/m2). Many HDR displays fall woefully short, however, with some of them only capable of 350 nits. That's even below the entry-level DisplayHDR certification that VESA recently cooked up in an effort to bring clarity (and some standards) to the HDR scene.

The ProArt PA32UC boasts a 384-zone direct-lit LED backlight matrix with a maximum brightness of...you guessed it, 1,000 nits! It also has a dynamic contrast ratio of 100,000,000:1, along with 178-degree viewing angles (vertical and horizontal), the latter of which is pretty standard for (and one of the strengths of) an IPS panel.

For graphics professionals, the new display serves up 100 percent coverage of the sRGB color spectrum, 99.5 percent coverage of the Adobe RGB color space, 95 percent of the DCI-P3 color space, and 85 percent coverage of the Rec. 2020 color spectrum. Those are all high and suitable for graphics work. In addition, ASUS says the monitor comes pre-calibrated from the factory, and also includes the company's ProArt Calibration technology.

This is a 4K resolution monitor with a 60Hz native refresh rate. If you're a gamer, the response time is actually pretty good at 5ms (GtG). This is really aimed at gamers, though—it sells for $2,000 on B&H Photo, a price point that is clearly aimed at graphics designers and other professionals.

Finally, the ProArt PA32UC has a pair of built-in 3W RMS speakers, four HDMI 2.0b inputs, two Thunderbold 3 ports, a DisplayPort 1.2a connector, a micro HDMI port, and downstream USB Type-A and USB-C connectors (one each).
