ASUS Issues BIOS Updates To These Motherboards For AMD's Zen 2 Ryzen 3000 Series CPUs
AMD is planning to at least talk about its upcoming Ryzen 3000 series of desktop processors in a few weeks at Computex, and the expectation is that it will be launching the new CPUs at that time. As that date draws closer, motherboard makers are prepping for the event with new models based on the upcoming X570 chipset. What about existing 300 and 400 series motherboards? At least one company has begun rolling out BIOS updates.
That company is ASUS, and it has already made available BIOS updates for around three dozen X470, B450, X370, and B350 motherboard models.
"ASUS will release BIOS updates for its 300 and 400 series motherboards to add support for next-generation AMD Ryzen CPUs. The latest BIOS update for each motherboard model can be downloaded from the official ASUS website as it becomes available," ASUS said in a statement.
The company also promised that more models will be added to the list in short order. For now, here are the models that already have BIOS updates available...
This speaks to the welcome strategy on AMD's part of committing to its AM4 socket through several generations of Ryzen processors. However, if you're building a PC from the ground up around one of the upcoming Ryzen processors, your better bet will be to roll with an X570 motherboard. It will introduce some new features, notably PCIe 4.0 support, which provides added bandwidth for things like NVMe SSDs and multiple graphics cards.
The X570 chipset will also squeeze the most out of the Ryzen 3000 series, which is rumored to bring a 15 percent uplift in IPC (instructions per clock) performance, along with higher clockspeeds and better power efficiency.
