Asus Looks Ahead to Upcoming Trinity Fusion APUs, Announces F2A85 Series Motherboards
Asus today lifted the curtain on its F2A85 Series of motherboards built around AMD's new A85X chipset and FM2 socket. The boards are designed and optimized for the Sunnyvale chip designer's second generation "Trinity" Accelerated Processing Units (APUs), which are expected to launch next month.
One of the things Asus continues to tout is the inclusion of Dual Intelligent Processors, which are two onboard chips -- EPU (Energy Processing Unit) and TPU (TurboV Processing Unit). Paired with Asus' exclusive DIGI+ VRM digital power design, Asus claims its boards deliver twice the precision power as ones that don't have it. To ensure minimal power loss and, by extension, better reliability (especially when overclocking,), the new boards are able to intelligently adjust PWM voltage and frequency modulation.
"It also adjusts VRM frequencies dynamically, cutting radiation interference by half and decreasing Vcore power noise for CPU to enhance system stability through enabling VRM spread spectrum," Asus explains. "Asus DIGI+ VRM digital power design empowers users with superior flexibility and perfect precision to ensure optimized performance, extreme system stability and greater power efficiency."
One of the new boards is the F2A85-M Pro. It's a mainstream part that supports CPUs with up to four cores. It has 4 memory slots with support for up to 64GB of DDR3 1866 memory, two PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots, two PCI-E 2.0 x1 slots, seven SATA 6Gbps ports, a single eSATA port, USB 3.0 support, and a host of connectivity options, such as HDMI, DisplayPort, and several others.
Other boards that comprise the new series include the F2A85-V Pro, F2A85-M, and F2A85-M LE. Look for all of these to launch in October. No word yet on how much each one will cost.
