ASUS ROG Gaming Laptops Infused With 9th Gen Intel Core And GeForce Turing Unleashed In NYC
Intel today launched new 9generation Core mobile processors, while NVIDIA unboxed brand new GeForce GTX 16 Series Turing GPUs for laptops. As you might expect, OEMs are refreshing their lineups around these new chips, and we got the chance to get some hands-on time with new hardware from ASUS.
At the top of the lineup is the ROG Mothership, which we first saw in January at CES 2019 with a factory overclocked Intel Core i9-8950HK processor running the show. However, this time around ASUS has upped the stakes with an available 9generation Intel Core i9-9980HK. This 8-core/16-thread processor has a base clock of 2.4GHz, but can turbo boost all the way to 5GHz on a single core.
Everything else remains the same as you remember it including its funky all-in-one meets convertible laptop design. The 17-inch G-SYNC display can be had in FHD or 4K resolutions. Up to a GeForce RTX 2080 is supported along with up to 64GB of DDR4-2666 RAM. As for storage, the ROG Mothership has a total of three 512GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSDs operating in a RAID-0 configuration.
Moving along, there are the ROG Zephyrus S, M, and G families which are available in a wealth of configurations. The Zephyrus S family includes the GX701, GX531 and GX502. The former is the 17-inch model, while the latter feature 15.6-inch displays. Processor options include up to a 9generation Intel Core i7-9750H processor and up to a GeForce RTX 2080 (RTX 2070 on the GX502).
The Zephyrus M manages to cram a lot of high-powered hardware into a 4.1-pound, 15.6-inch frame including a hex-core Intel Core i7-9750H processor with up to 32GB of RAM and up to a GeForce RTX 2060 GPU. The 15.6-inch panel carries an FHD resolution along with a hyper-fast 240Hz refresh rate. Up to 1TB SSDs are supported as is RAID-0.
The Zephyrus G switches things up with a 15.6-inch display (60Hz or 120Hz) and an AMD Ryzen 7 3750H APU. The APU can be paired with up to 32GB of DDR4-2400 RAM and up to a 512GB SSD. Also along for the ride is the new GeForce GTX 1660 TI Turing graphics card with 6GB of GDDR6 memory.
Not to be left out, there are new ROG Strix SCAR III and Hero III notebooks, which are each available in 15.6-inch and 17-inch form-factors. The 15.6-inch models come equipped with 240Hz panels, while the 17-inch models top out at 144Hz. ASUS tosses in an Intel Core i9-9880H processor along with a GeForce RTX 2070 for your real-time ray tracing gaming pleasure.
The updated ROG Mothership arrives in Q3 at an undisclosed price, while the Zephyrus S family starts at $2,099 and is available now in certain configurations. The Zephyrus M will be available in May priced at $1,899 and the Zephyrus G busts out of the gate today from $1,099. The ROG Strix family lands in June priced from $1,699.
