Asus Slaps Energy Star 5.0 Label On Motherboards

These days, power savings are just important as frame rates, gigahertz and megabytes. With the whole world going "green," what better way to join the bandwagon than to slap an Energy Star 5.0-compliant motherboard into your main rig? This week, Asus has announced an industry first by bringing that very label to its mainboards.

The Energy Star 5.0 standard is the latest and greatest, and it's set to take effect on July 1st of this year. Asus' motherboards exceed Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) standards for the reduction of harmful materials in its products and in the environment, and moreover, these boards feature an Energy Processing Unit (EPU) to simultaneously control power profiles to motherboard components for minimized power consumption. A look at the full list of ES 5.0-certified boards are below, and if we had to guess, we'd surmise that companies such as MSI and Gigabyte will be following suit in short order.
