Asus Transformer Book Windows 8 Hybrid Now Available to Pre-order

Is it a notebook or is it a tablet? Like a growing number of Windows 8 devices, the Transformer Book from Asus is both, depending on how you utilize it, and it's finally showing up to the party. Asus first introduced the Transformer Book all the way back in June of last year, and now eight months later, you can pre-order the device, provided you pony up the requisite $1,480 MacMall wants for it.

The online retailer doesn't say when the Transformer Book will actually ship, stating only "Place your order today and be one of the first to receive this product when it arrives!" For what it's worth, an online retailer in Germany lists the Transformer Book as being available next month.

As a refresher, the Transformer Book is Asus' first detachable notebook. It has a 13.3-inch Full HD 1080p (1920x1080) IPS multi-touch display, Intel Core i5 3317U or Core i7 3517U processor (MacMall's SKU includes the Core i7 chip), 4GB of DDR3-1600 RAM, 128GB mSATA solid sate drive (plus a 500GB hard drive in the dock), front and rear facing cameras, and various ports. The dock adds two USB 3.0 ports, an SD card slot, mini DisplayPort, GbE LAN, and a stereo speaker.
