ATI R600 Delayed

Fudo over at The Inquirer reports that their sources have indicated that ATI's next-generation R600 GPU will be delayed until Q1 2007. For the last year, the industry has heard endless accounts of how focused ATI has been upon R600 with a significant amount of effort being applied towards the GPU even as early as R520. As such, many assumed R600 was poised and ready to launch at a moment's notice. Obviously, something is amiss with the GPU as the delay will now have ATI missing the Christmas season entirely with their next-generation part. Could ATI have uncovered something with NVIDIA's G80 that made them want to alter R600's specifications or is there an underlying issue that needs to be resolved? Per usual, we will all have to wait and see as the moles are keeping their lips tight this round.

It looks like Nvidia's G80 will be out before but R600 still looks more attractive. This is what our own Charlie Demerjian reported he other day, here. Nvidia might have up to three months lead with its new high end product and this is a lot. Until then, ATI has to hold the market attention with sub $ / ¬ 399, R580+ Radeon X1950 XTX card. It doesn't sounds good for ATI in high end market.
